AFTER BUILDING your cabin, you'll . need a place to keep your car. The least expensive shelter is a carport—simply an open garage with either decorative supports or side panels for protection against wind and rain.

In the case of a flat roofed structure, the roof of the house may be extended to cover the carport as well. An example of this construction may be seen in the photographs below. The most common approach is shown in the drawing at the left. The detached carport shown above may be connected to your cabin by a simple breeze-way. Floor and roof should have a slight pitch to carry off rain.

Inside and out—for strength and beauty at low cost use Weldwood Plywood

SURFWOOD® COSTS ONLY ABOUT $26 for an 8' X 12' wall. Textured surface looks like weathered driftwood, helps hide nail holes.

SAMARA.* a true hardwood from the heart of Africa, costs only about $23 for an 8' x 12' wall. Can be stained or left natural

WEtDTEX* comes in interior and exterior grades in 4' x 8' sheets for paneling and siding, 48" x 15V siding panels, and in squares for checkerboard effect. TEXTURE 111* is a vertically grooved exterior plywood. Stained, it looks wonderfully modern on cabins and other one-story homes, for siding, soffits, carports.

.

You'll find Weldwood's your best buy for any home use. Here's a brief summary of the types of Weldwood available.
WALL AND ROOF SHEATHING. You get 40% greater rigidity with %a" thick superior Fir Weldwood Plyscord than with ordinary diagonal bracing or sheathing. Nail holding is better and low-cost 4' x 8' sheets permit speedy erection. Exclusive Weldwood L-1R resin-glue gives panels many advantages over ordinary interior grade but at no increase in price.

SUBFIOORING. Use either Weldwood Plyscord, or sanded Weldwood Plybase that's especially good for linoleum, tile and carpeting.

SIDING. Both Weldtex—the original striated plywood—and rough-surfaced Texture 111 (see pictures below) are exterior grade, made with completely waterproof glue. And both can be used without sheathing.

PANELING. Here's where Weldwood really shines! Besides Surfwood, Samara and Weldtex shown, there's V-Plank* —vertically grooved panels that give the effect of random planking; Planktex*—with bands of striations alternating with bands of smooth wood; unique Plankweldt — 16Vi" wide x 8' panels that go right on studs with clips that eliminate face nailing. Most of these are available in walnut, oak, birch, Korina®, and Honduras and Philippine mahogany; some come already pre-fmished—even to wax. Just put them up and the job's done!
